Several ways of finishing

All though there is lots to be finished before Christmas, I have completed two major tasks this week which allows me to lower my shoulders a bit :). I made it through my exam in project management - and I was rewarded with an

A!!!!

The result is very inspiering (forgetting all the frustration), and I might just take another subject next year.

I have also finished the Goodbye Quilt for my colleague. I forced myself to free motion quilt it, and it turned out quite nice if I may say.

I am no professional free motion quilter, so I need a lot more practise but at least I am on my way!

Busy weekend

This weekend has been really busy! It started on Friday watching the latest Twilight movie at the cinema. Yesterday and today I have painted half our hallway white (my sholder is sore) and I have managed to baste the Goodbye quilt. And almost finished the first book in the Twilight serie! Now I am eager to get to the gym, as soon as my husband and one of my sons get back from their fishing trip.

Still working

Today I finished the top I started on last weekend. I have decided that this will be the Goodbye Quilt for our dear colleague. Tomorrow I will start collecting signatures from my other colleagues, and I will put these on the back of the quilt.

(Can you see the little doggie butt??) There will be no side borders on the quilt. I hope to start making the sandwich early next weekend, and maybe finish the quilting within next Sunday. I have a heep of other projects to finish before Christmas, so I better get on with it.

Opening that layer cake

Yesterday I opened my newest layer cake, the Panier de Fleurs by French General. I am making a quilt from a pattern I found in one of my recent book purchases (will show you later). As you know I am making another Goodbye Quilt for a dear colleague that is soon to retire. And I might just change my mind and give her this quilt instead. Time will tell.

Here you see one of the first blocks finished. The pattern is fun and easy. I will keep you posted about the progress.

A long overdue finish - oh so many UFO`s

Today I finished a little Christmas table cloth I startet making a year or two ago. Such a simple project, you would think I`d manage to finish it a long time ago. I probably was led astray by another intriging project, I often do.

I fell in love with this beautiful Christmas fabric from Lecien, I wish I had bought more of it when I had the chance. I am not an accomplished free motion quilter yet, so I must find more small projects to practice on. The table is an old heirloom after my mother in law.

I just had to show you some of Mother Natures beautiful displays, the transformation from the vivid summer to fall and ultimately winter.

It`s official!

The Christmas spirit "hit" me yesterday. I was starting to wonder where it was, I have never had to wait until late October to find it. Most years I start singing Christmas carols in August, but I also remember when I kept the festive spirit for a whole year. Even the kids thought that was a bit strange.

So for the rest of this year (and far out in 2012 I bet) there will be nothing but Christmas songs coming out of my little sewing room CD-player :)

I must admit that I have been going a bit "bananas" lately, but it is such a thrill when a new parcel lands in my mailbox. What is a girl going to do??? (I ought to get myself some sponsors thats what). I have received two gorgeous heaps of delicious fabrics lately, I can`t take my hands off of them lol

Reaching another milestone

Yesterday I did it again! This time I jogged 5 km in a womens race in Oslo called KK-mila. (KK is the name of a womens magazine). It was fun and unpretentious, and women in all ages and forms participated. I did make a tactical misjugdement though, placing myself way back in the crowd when the race started. I soon realized that I now had to pass hundreds of women who only planned to walk the distance. So I had to start zig zag around them to get ahead. The zig zag put a lot of exstra strain to my muscles, making the race a bit harder.

I ran the whole lap at 41 minutes, and are very pleased that I completed my first 5 km :) There was no medal this time, but we got a well stocked goodie bag, check what I got:

Hairspray, shampoo, toothpaste, food and a perfume sample.

Drinkingbottle, book, magazine, a make up bag, another bag for sportswear and a rain poncho.

And a nice, soft scarf.

Next Saturday I am entering another race, but I will not run the whole way. The race is 10 km, and it is too early for me to run so far. I will try to run for four minutes and walk for one minute the whole distance through.

What does Drømmequilten mean?

For those of you who read my blog and are not Scandinavian, the blogname - Drømmequilten - is most likely difficult to relate to. What does the name mean? Translated into English it means The Dream Quilt. Why did I choose that name? Like many of my ideas it came to me just as I was going to sleep. The name can represent different things; like for instance the ultimate quilt you have made or seen. Or a quilt that gives you sweet dreams when you sleep on it. Or you can dream about a beautiful quilt you want to make? For me it means that there is no limits for me how far I can go in all parts of my life, the only one making the bounderies is me.

The Happy Hexie Quilt

Today the mailman brought me a parcel with goodie scrap bags from Piece O`Cake Designs. Lots and lots of delicious bright fabrics for my hexiequilt.

I had totally forgot that I ordered them - so typical of me :). Those who know my work will see that this is quite a bit brighter than what I normally go for, but I really love these happy fabrics. And I can`t wait to make my happy hexie quilt! In fact that is what I will call the quilt - the Happy Hexie Quilt!!

Starting on The Hexagon Quilt (another longtime project)

I love Leanne Beasleys magazine Vignette, it is always a good day when I get the magazine in my mailbox. Her patterns just makes me happy. She has visited Norway several times, but sadly I have always missed out on them all. I hope she will return some day soon, she is a great inspiration to me. Today I started on my own version of her Vignette Hexagon quilt. I know this will be one of those project that takes a long time getting finished, but that is ok. I am not in a hurry.

While my hexies multiplies they must have a good and comforting home. I bought this sweet Tilda-box for that purpose.

Yeah! My first little hexie, waiting for some company. I decided to use fabric from my scrap pile for this quilt. How big will it become? I have no idea yet.

My dear friend Lena bought this book, and I just had to have my own copy. Just check out the red polkadot chair. Wish I had one, I am a sucker for dots!

I got a medal!

Saturday I participated in Oslo Marathon, where I ran the three kilometer run. It was hard -VERY hard! A lot of the other people both walked and ran, but not me! My goal was to complete in style, no walking for this chic. It was harder than the testrun two days earlier, my pulse was over 183 when I crossed the goal line. (You want to throw up when your pulse is that high). But then again, I ran faster this time, and my coach was very pleased with my effort.

This is not my last run, this is just the beginning. I am running the five kilometer in another race for women in three weeks, and 10 km the weekend after. I have ordered the book "Run your own marathon" by Grete Waitz, and that is just what I will do. Within two years my goal is to run a marathon! I love the concept of running. It is great for weight control, easy when you get the hang of it, and it is fun! (Believe it or not). I do not compete against others, I compete against myself and my negative thinking.

Naturally I will not quit quilting :)

Practical homemade bib

My DS need bibs, and I have had a hard time finding something suitable. I found a company that makes bibs I like, but for some reason they would not sell me any. I tried to apply for some through NAV (the proper organ to direct when you need to apply for remedies for handcapped people), but they turned me down.

Well, that is no problem, I`ll just make some myself, I thought. But what type of fabric can I use as backing, to keep the moist away from his clothes?? After searching on the internet I found a company in Finland that sell a fabric called PUL. It breathes, and is used together with fabric dipers. Naturally I bought some, and yesterday I test sewed a bib.


I used a Japanese fabric.

I have ordered some brown velcro, I hope it gets here tomorrow. I have to make a lot more of these.

Today me and my boys have spent a quiet day at home, watching the seremonies from New York and Washington. I have done some sewing as well, between the TV and cooking. I made this Dresden Plate block that will be the center of my Goodbye Table Cloth.

I will reveal the next step soon - the first frame around the center. I just love those colors!

Choosing fabrics for a new project

I am starting on another Goodbye-quilt. A dear colleague is retiring by the end of this year, and the plan is to make her a table cloth. Well, that is the plan, but I am also playing with the idea of making her a lap quilt.

This is the fabrics I plan to use. If I choose the table cloth the center will be a Dresden Plate. If I end up making a lap quilt there will be several Dresden Plates. What do you think? Table cloth or lap quilt?

Man, where did time go?? My Saturday shopping lasted for a very long time (included a lovely lunch and picking up kids). There have been little time for sewing, but I have finished the top for my table runner.

Quilts and quilters that makes a difference

I have a child with a sevear epilepsy (Lennox Gastaut Syndrom), and with other diagnoses that normally follows in its footprints. Due to this, we have spent many weeks at the time in a hospital that works only with these types of cases. The people who works there are fenomenal, and much is done to make the environment as homey as possible.

Every time we have been there, I have admired all the beautiful quilts that are displayed all over the place. We are talking about many wall quilts in different sizes. A few weeks ago Lena and I decided to visit a quilting guild in a near by county for inspiration. The guild is Bærum Lappelag. It is fun to see how other guilds do their stuff, we thought. The atmosphere when we entered the room was so nice that we ended up joining the guild as new members!

I later on checked out their homepage, and what did I find? This is the guild that made all those lovely quilts and gave them to "our" hospital! This is not a coincidence, I thought to myself. This is providential - me being a member there :)

They had a fabulous Show and tell, here are some of the things we could admire:

Starting on an x-mas present

Autumn is here, and it is time to start some serious christmas present sewing. I do worry though, how am I going to manage all my sewing plans?? I have an exam in the late fall, and will have to spend a lot of my free time studying. Rats! Why did I sign up for it?? I am just so very behind with my reading...sigh...

Today I have been a good girl! I read a long chapter, worked on the mandate for my exam paper, and made this quilt top!

I made it from the roll of fat quarters I bought from Quiltefryd when they visited our guild last month. (Notice the doggy butt?) And guess what! I had so many blocks that I am making another quilt and a table runner! That means two christmas presents and somenthing new for my coffe table :) That is just what I need these days - really effective and rapid sewing!

More goodies (poor little wallet!)

I promised you I would show you what I bought when Leka and I visited Lille Stasjon, and here it is. Lovely fabrics, pattern and thread.

I haven`t got the clue about what I am going to make of the Japanese fabrics, time will tell.

In between sewing, kids and work I still do a lot of workouts and try to get a progress on my jogging. It is only three weeks to The Big Test - where I will run 3 km in Oslo Marathon! I am not there yet, but with the new program from my coach, I think I will make it :) I have already been in one of the national newspapers, and they plan to do another article after the race.

Goodies!

The last few days a lot of quilting goodies has arrived in my sewing room. I need some vitamin Q after a long summer with very little sewing. I have gone a bit bananas twice this week, leaving my bank account a bit empty. Nothing but flies there now. Last night Quiltefryd came with their shop to our guild, and I spent more money than I had planned. I think you`ll understand when you see what I bought.

The dark roll of fabric contains 25 fat quarters in brown, blue, white and rusty red. The blue and greens are for a "goodbye-dear-colleague"-project I am starting on soon.

Tidy up!

A few days ago me and my friend Leka went on our traditional autumn trip to Lille Stasjon, a wonderful quilt shop. I will show you my purcases later. I bought a smart little plastic boks for some of my embroidery thread.

This is not it. Look at this mess! Like color spaghetti tangled up in eachother. This does not encourage me to sew, just to put the lid back on.

Here you see the result after several hours of labour, so tidy and nice! And a lot more room for new thread. Maybe I will buy some tonight at the first autumn meeting in my guild. Quiltefryd is visiting with their shop, and they are giving a lecture in sewing machine maintenance. I hope to take a lot of pictures so I can show you tomorrow.

Oops I did it again - part two

Yesterday Mr. Pfaff left my sewingroom. It has been a nice year, but we never really hit it on. I know, I am just as bad as those men who are always changing cars, and yesterday I brought home a new cutie.

This one is going to stay with me for a long time, I can feel it! Everytime I have visited my local quiltshop (no blog or homepage) she has blinked her little led eye to me, and whispered: take me home! I am so happy, and look forward to many happy hours of sewing.

I`m back again!

Oh my, it is so long since I`ve posted :( I am ashamed! So what have I been doing these months?

LOSING WEIGHT!!

I have been and still work out hard, five times a week, and so far I have lost 17 kg :) My big goal is to lose a total og 45 kg, and soon I am halfway.

I haven`t forgot to sew, and I mostly work on my many WISPs and UFOs. However, I plan to make two new quilts for two of my sons.

Summer is coming...

...and summer means lots of houses for sale, which again means a lot to do at work. And sadly that means less time for quilting.

We don`t have any close up neighbours here, so I don`t have curtains in all of the windows. However, I finally decided that I had to do something in the living room, as the sun makes it impossible to watch TV. Being a shabby girl, I didn`t want to buy lift curtains, so I made them from a old restaurant table cloth. It worked really well! No sun is getting through :)

I hade some leftover scraps from the table cloth, and I am thinking of making a table runner or something.

The fabric is really thick, so I had to improvise the pattern myself.

I use the lovely Cosmo embroidery thread. What this project will result in I don`t know, but I`m thinking of making different stichery motifs and put it all together.

One evening as I walked pass my window I stopped and gazed at this beautiful sunset. Too bad my camera can`t reproduce the real thing, it was breathtaking.

New additions to the library

All though I haven`t been blogging much lately, I have been adding new books and magazines to my quilting library.

Which by the way cries for a new bookshelf!

Lovely books if I some day want to test my sewing skills and patience :)

This Norwegian book has the cutest little stitcheries. I must make something from this one, I may even start tomorrow.

Presenting the finished top for my Gardner quilt. I plan to ship it off to a proffesional for the basting (but have made too many purchases lately and must wait for next salary), and I plan to hand quilt it. Max is looking forward to curl up in a brand new quilt. Sorry puppy, this one is mums!

When I finally found the world of quiltblogs (I am a bit slow), reading other blogs became a huge inspiration to me. The three blogs that by far got me going was Leannes House, Abyquilt and Hannes Quilt Corner.

Mostly quiltblogs, but also interior blogs. I like shabby chic! My house is decorated in that style, allthough I fear that it is more shabby than chic......

3. My favourite movie?

Any Jane Austen film will do!

4. My favourite color?

I do find myself getting more "pinkish" as I get older, which is funny since I hated that color before.

5. Which country would I like to visit and why?

My dream is to go to the USA, to visit the Amish communities and "go banana" at the Houston Quilt Festival!!!

Well, I got home over a week ago actually. The trip to the annual meeting in the Norwegian Quilt Association was a success;

This was one of my favourite quilts in the exhibition. Hilde A. Krogh made it. She is a Norwgian quilter and author, and has made quilts for Kaffe Fassett.

If memory serves me correct this quilt made by Magnhild Tautra won the Best craftsmanship award.

After returning home I have finished the top for the Gardner Quilt. I will show it to you soon :)

Getting ready for a big event

Sorry folks, I know it has been a while since my last post. Surgery (nothing serious) followed by a flue has kept me away from my computer. I am slowly getting better, which is about time since I am leaving for the annual meeting at the Norwegian Quilt Association this upcoming weekend. The event is taking place in my hometown Tromsoe, way up north. I haven`t been back for years, so I am looking forward to the trip.

I made this cute stitchery bag today. It fits perfectly in the bag I am bringing with me on the trip. It is a AnnAKa design (no blog or homepage). I am not taking any classes, so I have to bring a stitchery or I`ll go mad ;)

There are six pockets in the bag. I have filled one with lovely Cosmo embroidery thread, another with needles, and a thread cutter is attached to a velvet pink ribbon. I love the Cosmo thread, it is smooth like silk, and has a lovely shine.

We are fortunate to have this hobby, especially in these trying times. My heart aches for the Japanese people. I visited a Japanes blog today, her house was devistated, but her spirit was not. She and a friend was quilting again :)

Drumroll please.....

...my Dear Jane adventure has started!! I am now a Janiac, and I love it! I recently spent a wonderful Saturday with a bunch of eager ladies and my favourite quilting teacher, Hanne Schneider.

Here it is! Hannes gorgeous Dear Jane quilt. Not all of the ladies plan to sew the whole quilt. I am - and I will not use a sewingmachine. My challenge to myself is; every stitch will be hand sewn!

And mayby one day I will make a Christmas Dear Jane? This lovely quilt is made by Hanne.

Scatterbrained quilter

....thats me! Sometimes (just sometimes) I wish I was better at finishing projects. I do finish some from time to time, but I am even better at starting new ones. (Sounds familiar?) Last week I started cutting these lovely fabrics I bought a while ago. One day it will become a snuggleup-quilt in my livingroom.

I can see "the end of the tunnel" when it comes to this BOM. It seem like I have been working on it for ages. I still have nine flowers to make, but today I wanted some variation, and started making the centres of the flowers.

Looking at the flowers just makes me happy :)

This weekend I have enjoyed myself in my sewingroom, making a little bag for my workphone, with a inside pocket for notebook and pen.

I had no pattern, just went along with the idea I had. If I make another one, I will make it a little bit wider, then I can fit my cell phone as well.

I have also made these two mugrugs. I started out with a dark teal fabric, and this is what I ended up using. Man, it is hard to change ones color palette! But then again, I don`t feel a strong need to do so. I guess I will always be a hopeless romantic :)

I`m back!

Sorry folks! Time just flies by so fast these days, I tumble exhausted into bed every night. Big changes at work leaves little time to sew. Today I brought this lovely mugrug and bag with me to work.

They are both a Christmas gift from my dear friend Lena. So even if things are hectic at work, I have some fabric to look at and touch.

I bet I can find something in my office to fit into this cute little bag :)

Soo, what else have I been up to lately? Not much! This is what I have been working on lately. I have no idea what I`ll end up making!! I just like the colors :)

Next month things will change though. On February 12th we start on the great Dear Jane event. We are 13 women that for the next 8 months or so will meet up with one of my favourite quilt teachers (Hanne Schneider) and make our own versions of this wonderful quilt. And I have sworne that I will only hand sew..........

The last few weeks has been pretty hectic, with me getting promoted at work and all the Christmas comotion. Exiting times lies ahead!

Here are my last two finishes, make-up bags for my nieces, Ingrid and Sandra. The sewing machine has returned to its place in my sewing room, and for the rest of Christmas I plan to enjoy myself with hand sewing projects.

I got this cute mugrug from Sue in England. Thank you, Sue! I love it!! I didn`t have one, and this I am bringing to my new office. When I get stressed I can touch the lovely fabrics :)

So to all my friends out there, I wish you all a very, merry Christmas!

I have made a few gift bags, cute christmas presents don`t you think? The bags made of chistmas fabrics I am giving to the annual christmas marked. I will fill them with decorations for the christmas tree. (Do you call it trimmings??)

Making Christmas Presents and goodies for the sweet tooth

I have enjoyed a couple of lazy days off work. I have done some seriously pre-advent cleaning around the house (did I say lazy days??), and finished a couple of presents as well. And I am working on a little christmas design, which is not ready to show yet.

My step mom has for several years whished for pot holders to display in the kitchen, and this year I have granted her wish. I made these cute pot holders from an AnnAka design (Norwegian designer, unfortunately no blog or home page).

One of my nieces is getting this cute little bag. I made it in a couple of hours this morning.

My twin boys turned 11 yesterday, and today we celebrated inviting family for cakes. I am pleased to see that my baking skills has past on to the next generation. DD made these cute cup cakes all by himself. I only got to watch from a distance. The batter was hand made and perfect, he did an excellent job :).

Meeting good friends

This weekend the girls I sew with met at a lovely cabin for lots of sewing and nice company. It is such a beautiful cabin, in the forest by a lake.

Snow outside and a warm fireplace inside. What could be any better?

Delicious food is a must. And we ate!!

I finished the top of my DD Cosy Quilt, which he is getting for Christmas, at the cabin. Poor thing has almost given up hope of getting his mum to make him a quilt. Today I finished the quilt while he was out fishing! I hope he likes it.

Happy owner of first issue of Vignette!!

I went from being exhausted to jumping up and down when I got home from work today and saw that the postman had delivered. The very first issue of Vignette, Leannes new magazine.

It is the cutest little magazine, giving me lots of positive energy. At first I thought it seemed a bit thin, with its 35 pages, but when I started reading I just felt happy :)

In this first issue Leanne is starting a Mystery Quilt, that will last over the eight first issues. I will definitely keep on subscribing. I get my magazine from Barbara at Quilt Design.

Fighting my zipper fobi

Man, do I hate zippers! It is not that zippers are a bad thing, it is just the feeling of not "getting it right" that erks me. Therefore I hardly ever makes something that requires a zipper. You will never see me change a zipper in anyones jeans. I am a quilter, not a mender! That is why I feel quite proud now, showing off my two fresh made pencil cases.

I know I know, it is not the most advanced zipper, no curves or anything. Mind you, I did put in the binding simultaneous with the zipper! I tell you, I felt like a genious, lol. And I had no pattern, just started sewing hoping it would turn out right. (I don`t care that the fishes are upside down on one side, those are the fish from down under. (Get it???)

Two finishes

Today I have joined Sue and her Christmas quilt-a-long Saturday. I believe it is the last quilt-along of the year, but Sue has promised to continue next year as well.

I have finished two shoe bags today, both Christmas presents. I used a pattern from AnnaKa, a Norwegian designer (no blog or homepage). The table cloth you see under the bags is a piece I made a couple of years ago. Before this weekend is over I hope to have made a pencil case for my DD.

Making Comfort Quilts

Last Saturday my guild organized a come-together-and-sew-comfort-quilts-day. Twice a year we meet for a Saturday of sewing together, eating cake and enjoy each others company. My guild is a major contributor of comfort quilts, and many of the members makes quilts all year around as well.

Two eager and deeply consentrated ladies at work.

Hege made the top for a dino quilt, the one hanging over the iron board. She had brought her darling little boy, who entertained us with his cute little baby talk :) Music to my ears!

This time I actually manage to finish a top, although it didn`t turn out the way I planned. That is what you get when this blonde works with no strategy, lol. Here you see the top laying on a cute bear fleece, which will serve as backing.

Working my way through The List

Finally I am getting started on my christmas present list. I don`t know how I every year manage to fall behind, especially since I have my New Year ritual (January 1th I put up this years Christmas present list). So here I am, soon mid November, and barely starting making presents. Today I have been a good quilter though. I got up at 0730 am, and after a quick breakfast (yep, still eating cabbage) I started making bread baskets.

After four baskets I ran out of batting (I use Habalon) and had to place a quick Sunday internet order. I still have to make som baskets for the annual Christmas Raffle we put together in our village.

A last minute finish

Talk about waiting to the last minute! I woke up this morning knewing it is the last day of the month, and I had no finished project to show for. So what to make? It had to be quick, because I also had to carve out two Jack the lantern and make dinner, and other boring stuff. And I didn`t want to make a bread basket this morning. As I stood in my sewing room trying to figure this out, I thought back on yesterday. Max and I attended our very first indoor dog exhibition yesterday. It was really crowded and loud. I had brought the stupid plastic cage, which does not work well at a exhibition. I swore that next time I would bring the other cage. I didn`t bring that cage because it had no cover, and a little doggy needs a cover so he can escape from all the impressions he gets on a exhibition.

And then I got it! I would make a cover today!! I was lucky to find a thick denim fabric so I didn`t have to use batting. And having little time to spend, I decided to sew the cover in one piece. So I layed the fabric over the cage, grabbed my scissors and started to cut. All the time I was doing this I kept thinking what a lazy fool I am, and that this will never end good. Would this come together???

It did!! It fits perfectly! The cover is a bit long, but will fit perfectly then I attache the wheels.

A window is a necessity so that a little doggy can peek out and check out if there is any good looking lady dogs around :) Helps the ventilation too.

A busy week, a way too short weekend!

A busy week has kept me from sewing, and the weekend goes by so fast....sigh. The only thing I have manage to get done is a heart block for the Christmas Heart table cloth. I am actually on track with this BOM, which is the first time ever, lol.

Autumn is definitely here

It is strange reading blogs from down under, where it is summer and hot, while winter is closing in up here. What an amazing planet we live on!

Autumn is my favourite time of year (I am allergic...). The air is crisp and pollen free, and the colours are amazing. Sitting in a warm house with candle lights, listening to the storm outside is quite cosy. My children are allready making their Christmas wishing lists...

I finished stitching this block on Sunday. The block is for the Christmas Hearts table cloth I am working on. Now I just have to stitch the first heart again (drew it the wrong way last time..) and I am back on track. I wonder what the next BOM is like?? This is exhiting!!!

Christmas Hearts table cloth

Here is what I`ve been woorking on so far this weekend. This lovley Christmas table cloth, a BOM from Northern Quilts. I love the fabrics, and they are very "Scandinavian" looking. Under you see the working space of a messy quilter, lol. I sew this table cloth the american way, on the line, and I have occupied a table in my living room for this purpose.

I do like sewing on the line. It is accurate, and I have no problem with size or fitting the parts. Well, that is, until I discovered that there is a error in the pattern. The square template that came with BOM number two is 4 1/2 ", that means it is 1/2 " too big. In other words you need to make your template 4" if you are sewing on the line or with English paper piecing. I mailed this problem to the author as soon as I noticed it, and she will print a correction and send it with BOM number 3.

On this picture I still have one row of squares to sew onto the center piece. Believe me, sewing on the line is no slow process. It is actually quite fast. And when I hand quilt the table cloth it will achieve a very nice soft look. I enjoy machine sewing, but I find it much easier to get the more "complicated" blocks accurate when I sew the "oldfashion ways".

It is time for Christmas Quilt- a-long

This is the first (but not the last) time I have joined Sue in England and her Christmas Quilt-a-long! I am just so pro Christmas, that my family has to hide away the Christmas CDs most of the year. And this event really makes me wanna find all my Christmas movies too. No time for that now, I must focus on this Christmas Quilt-a-long. I am working on a Christmas table cloth as we speak (or blog), and I will soon come back to show you (just have to take a picture first).

Goodies!

So far there has been little time for sewing this weekend. Yesterday I made lunch for a group of quilting ladies that are taking a weekend class, arranged by our guild. The theacher is non other than AnnaKa (no blog), one of Norways biggest quilt design names. She has come down all the way from Tromsoe to inspire and teach.

On our last guild meeting Quiltegaarden came all the way down from Thondheim (550 km!), and put up a fabulous shop for us. I bought this book, lovely quilts and receipes :) Yum!

I had to buy some fabric as well! There was so much to choose from, but these fabrics ended up going home with me. I forgot my camera that evening (happens a lot...), which is a shame as the show and tell was great. I will try to show you some photos later on.

New magazines has landed in my mailbox this week :)

And finally back to this weekend. Lappeliv (no blog) was called for on Friday night when many of the ladies realized they were missing some of the materials required for the class. Liv has the cutest little shop, so she turned up next day with lots of goodies. I couldn`t go home empty handed, could I? Nope!! So I bought a little iron which is very handy when I do my quilting the american way. And I just had to have the gorgeous white and red fabrics. Lovely!!

Sunday is here (weekends sure goes by fast, sigh...) and this is what I am going to do; bake a cake, groom my little Max, hopefully do some sewing, and tidy up after the quilting ladies.

Some finishes

The end of September is here, and for ones I actually have some finished projects to show for. I am much better at starting than at finishing. I really should do as many of you do, choosing a focus project each month.

I have made three bags from this gorgeous fabric I purchased a while back. I first thought of cutting the fabric into panels for another handbag, but I felt it would ruin the motif on the fabric.

So far I have made two bread baskets, both christmas presents for family members. I used japanese fabrics, and I think they turned out good.

The cute book cover is designed by May Britt, and was one of the many patterns the Stitchers Angels 2009 could dip into. I write down receipes in this one, just love it, couldn`t part from it!

Another block finish

This weekend I have finished another block from Leannes BOM. This one didn`t have much stitchery, but I decided to applique the heart one more time. I was not pleased with the first result, but back then I didn`t know much about hand applique either. I first thought about keeping the heart, to show the progress I have had over the years, but I changed my mind. I would only look at the heart, and it would probably annoy me tremendously. So, now it`s gone, bye bye.

I used freezer paper for the heart, a technique I like a lot.

I started working on this BOM from Leannes House a long time ago, longer than I care to remember. (We are talking years). Finally I have finished a block (only eight to go, puh), and I think it`s adorable. The stitching truly makes this quilt.

Before I start on the next block I have to make a new heart block, as I managed to stitch the last one wrong (see previous posts).

A happy rainy day!

Well folks, there is no longer any doubt, autumn is here. I woke up to a wet and foggy day, one of these mornings when you just wants to stay in bed.

Not today!! Lena and I got up early, eager to visit Lille Stasjon and their autumn sale. The shop has recently moved into new locations, and I have to say that it is now my number one favourite quilt shop.

Here you see the shop owner. She and her staff is as sweet as can be, always helpful and kind. This is a must for my comfort, and is in my opinion the key factor for a shops success.

Tons of fabric and goodies everywhere. I like the fact that they stock whole series of fabric, not just a little bit of this and a little bit of that.

They have a whole corner with beautiful things from Green Gate. I have been drooling for these things for years, maybe it is time to start collecting? Lena is busy taking pictures for her blog. So - did I buy anything?

Oh yeah! Lots of gorgeous fabrics for half the price or more. Rulers and Easy Scallops that will come in handy someday :)

A big box to put my ever growing collection of patterns into. And a bunny pattern. Indeed a happy rainy day!

The annual town market

Yesterday my quilting guild joined app. 150 companies and voluntary organizations, and put up a fabulous stand in the town square. The weather was great, not a cloud in sight, and thousands of people visit the marked during the day.

The stand was double the size of last years stand. Since we celebrate our twenty year anniversary this year, we wanted to make the most of it. And it was a success, the stand was filled with people.

Kari demonstrated free motion quilting, and Merita demonstrated EQ7. This table worked as a "people magnet", and is an important component in our success. The rest of us worked on different techniques such as stitchery, American and English piecing.

Kari worked on a cute quilt with mushrooms. Some of the spectators noticed her quilting gloves, and wondered if we always use gloves when we sew :)

Last years stand was great looking, but to small with little space to move around inside, which resulted in most of the visitors standing on the outside. This year we emphazised space, which resulted in a stand filled with people. This is actually one of the few moments without many visitors. We sold lots of kits of my chocolad milkingcow and floral design. The money is going to buy thread and fabric for the comforting quilts we make.

A quick finish

Last weekend we celebrated my youngest sons 8th birthday. Boy does time flies! On Friday I realized that I had to make a table runner for a recently painted furniture in my diningroom, and I had to make it quick! I got my inspiration from Rie Norum, a Norwegian designer (no blog), and made this table runner. I have quilted with narrow stripes, which will give a fun effect after washing it and the batting has shrunk a bit.

Stitchery workshop

Last night my quilting guild had its first meeting after the summer, and we had arranged for a stitchery workshop.

We displayed lots of quilts with stitchery for inspiration, as well as kits containing the two designs I made (see earlier posts). These turned out to be very popular, and there were only a couple of kits left when the meeting was over. I am tickled pink!

Here are some of the ladies, deeply consentrated. There are a lot of skilled women in our guild, eager to help any newcomer who needs assistant.

One of the guild members own a little quilt shop, and she sold hoops and pens and other stitchery related products. It was indeed a great meeting!

Slow August days

Max and I enjoys lazy days while everybody else is stressing to work and school. And we still have two weeks before I go back to work. Well, I am going to study a bit, as I plan to take an exam next spring.

Max likes it when mum is home. He loves to take walks, eating rasberry (which I pick for him) smelling the flowers and chasing all sorts of bugs :)

I am working on the stitchery of this block, and I am almost finished. Then I have to applique three hearts before I can start on the next block.

Our visit in Kristiansand is over, but we will return next year. We have a lot of fun memories from this beautiful town by the sea. My DO looking at the boats down by the fish market.

We had a very tasty hamburger meal while looking out on this park. Check out the little swan house in the pond.

I am sitting here, totally pooped! Vacation sure is hard work ;). Yesterday we spent another day at Dyreparken, in order to see some of the attractions we missed out on the other day. I took a lot of pictures of the animals, but for some reason they turn their butt on me.......

A fun day

Today we visited Dyreparken, an amazing place with zoo and fun attractions for children of all ages. It is a very big place, so we have to go back tomorrow. Otherwise we would be missing out on a lot of fun stuff.

This fella was very curious, you could even touch him. The other one was not that interested. He turned his butt towards me every time I wanted to take his picture.

Am I not a beauty?? These animals have beautiful eyes with long eye lashes. However, the smell is not so cute...

A zebra grassing piecefully, no lions to watch out for here....

...they where safely behind another fence. Beautyful, magnificent animals, waiting for their lunchtime snack.

We also saw the feeding of the wolves. These are very shy animals, so this was the only chance to see them. The keeper walked in, threw the raw meat here and there and then went into safety behind the fence. Suddenly 13 wolves popped out of the woods!

Dyreparken is actually 3 parks; the zoo, a water world and an amusement park. The last is also home to the dreaded Kaptein Sabeltann (Captain Sabeltooth), a feared pirate ;). This is his ship, Den sorte dame ( the Black Lady).

Naturally :) I managed to find the only quilt shop in Kristiansand, Kreativ Quilt.

This smiling lady, Rannveig, is one of the owners. I did not go away empty handed, and I will show you my purchases later.

On the road

DO, DP and myself got off to an early start this morning, hoping to drive away from the rain. It was pouring buckets! After a few hours on the road the rain finally stopped, and the sun was shining. My plan was to drive directly to Kristiansand, with as few stops as possible. But then I suddenly remembered that I had forgotten my little embroidery hoop at home. Crisis!!

Good thing I found this little quilt shop by the road! Quilteloftet is a cute little shop, and as the name suggests, it is situated in an attic. Here I found my hoop and a pattern that I long have wanted for. I will show you my purchases later :)

IT`S VACATION TIME!!!

Working on my Gardner BOM

These days I am focusing on my Gardner BOM from Lappemakeriet. All the blocks for Gutta Boys (another BOM from same shop) are done, but there is still a lot to do before I can sew the top together. And because I find that part a bit boring, I was easily led to work on the Gardner :)

I haven`t got the fabric for the circles or sideblocks yet, can hardly wait.

With some of the left over fabric I am making a long table runner. I plan to use a delicate light blue fabric with roses on the sides. The table runner is ment for my dining table in my reasently painted Gustavian blue diningroom.

Finishing my design

I have finished my floral design. I desided to turn it into a pillow, and I must say I think it is very cute :)

A last minute finish...puh...

Yikes! Today is the last day of July!! And I have no finished project to show for. So I ran in to my sewingroom, looking for something to finish for my OPAM. Luckily I had this teabag holder that just needed a few stitches to complete.

This has not been a good month for sewing, but I have started the countdown :) I have seven more working days to go, and then it is VACATION!!!!

This BOM from Lappemakeriet will be my focus project when enjoying my holiday. I finished these three blocks today. They are fast and fun to make. Trine (co-owner) is generous when she cuts the fabrics, you always get plenty of fabric. So much that I am making a long tablerunner with some of the left over fabrics.

I promised you a peek on my stitchery design, and here it is. I have enjoyed working on it this weekend. I think I will turn this into a pillow. (No Max! Not one of the pillows that you love to chew on!!)

Man, has the last few weeks been busy! And I mean at work. I have spent more time at work than I have at home, what a summer!! At last things are slowing down, even lawyers and real estate brokers take vacation. That means more time in the sewong room for me :)

My quilting guild is having a stitchery workshop at our August meeting. I have designed two stitchery patterns that we are going to use. I have a little cow figure in my living room, which inspired me to draw this cute little cow. It is a chocolate milking cow :)

I am also working on a floral stitchery that requires a bit more stitching. I hope to get started on it this weekend, and I promise to show you as soon as I get on with it.

A little bag filled with a lot of happiness

My friend Agnethe (no blog) and I visited a favourite quiltshop today - Lappemakeriet. The shop is filled with a lot of goodies, including a lot of wonderful new fabric bolts.

The shop is very cosy, I always get a fussy feeling when I walk around in it. All those lovely quilts laying around, to irresistable not to touch.

How such a little bag can contain such a huge amount of happiness, I often wonder. I feel a little bit sorry for all the people out there (the non-quilters) who doesn`t know what they are missing out on :)

And here you see the bag content. Any wonder I feel happy?? There were a lot of new fabrics that I gladly would take home with me (they have to wait for my next pay check). I am definitely going back soon!

Yesterday I visited a local shop that also sell quilt fabric. I couldn`t resist bying these cute green and pinkies. I also have been wondering about buying this book, and finally I agreed with myself and ordered it from a internet bookshop.

I bought 40 pieces of Dear Jane fabrics from jadesign.dk. They arrived from Denmark a few days after I placed my order, and is now a part of my ever growing collection of Civil War fabrics.

Sewing has been slow this month, at least when it comes to any big projects. I have finished this funny little wallquilt though. It says; "My house was clean last week. Sorry you missed it."

It is an Art to Heart-pattern by Nancy Halvorsen. Hm, it feels like the designer somehow know me.....lol

A tiny little give away for the thimble collectors

Yesterday the whole family got in the cars and drove 100 km west, to Bjørneparken (the bearpark). The kids were exited to see bears and elks and other furry animals.

The keepers had just fed the bears with apples and vegetables when we arrived. Mummy bear had just found a juicy carrot, and decided to keep this treat to herself.

Here is one of the four cubs. He wasn`t at all interested in the people around the fence. The apples tasted way too good :)

This fella was patiently waiting for his lunch, not at all stressed by all the spectators.

This lady elk gave us a great pose, don`t you think? A true proffessional! Other animals in the park were deers, sheeps, ducks, rabbits, and porcupines. I didn`t get to see them all, as I by then was busy preparing for a tasty BBQ-meal.

I got souvernirs from the park, two thimbles! I know a lot of you collects thimbles, so I am putting both up for a give away. Bargain

Yesterday I took my mom to Ikea. I don`t go there very often, but after making a very good buy, I might just go back soon ;)

This closet set me back 100 kroner, which is app. 16 US dollars. That is what I call a bargain! I will (of course) not keep any clothes in it, only fabrics, batting and so on.

A few weeks back I attended a class by Bente Tufte (no blogg). The technique was sewing on the line, the american way. I did attend a similar class with Hanne a while ago, so I was already familiar with the technique. However, there were so many lovely quiltladies attending the class, that I just had to join in. We had a great time! Today I finished the first block. Could it be any cuter??

Searching for the china of my dreams

I recently visited a marked, where I found lovely pieces of an old English tea set. I have always dreamed of my own teaset, ever since I drank hot chocolat from my grandmas tea set as a little girl.

The cups and plates above are made by Johnson Bros, and the title on the plates is The friendly village.

This beautiful dessert bowl is called Happy England, also produced by Johnson Bros.

I found these lovely soucers in red and white at a flea marked a few years back. The back says Maisons Vista England. If I could only find the cups...

I would love to get more pieces of all above. Can you help me?

Slow progress

Although I work on different projects almost every day, I still am a long way from finishing any of them. I find that I much rather want to start new ones. I have finished the stitchery for The Patchwork Village quilt by Rosie - at last!

The houses are so cute, I wish I could live in them!

One of the reasons my quilting is slow these days is that I am totally lost in the world of Jane Austen. I just finished reading Persuasion, and last weekend I stayed up late watching that same film, and the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice. I have ordered not one, but two films of Emma, and have ordered more books. My husband is glued to the TV due to the soccer world championship - and I hate football!! I have to suffer a whole month, before the torture is over.

My only consolation is the thrill I will feel when my hubby have to spend the following month watching ALL the Jane Austen films. Sweet revenge..LOL

Working on the Baby Quilt

The tempo is slow, but at least I am making some progress with the Baby Quilt.

However, my darling Max the puppy doesn`t like it when mum spends too much time in her sewingroom, so this is what I got around doing today. I think I`ll do some handsewing later on today, after dinner. That way my little puppy can get some attention as well.

Expanding my library while I lust for Mr. Darcy ;)

The last days I have purchased two great books for my library (now installed in a working book shelf). Both books is written by Jinny Beyer. One of the books is all about hand piecing, techniques I just love to do (funny really, when I began quilting I swore that I would only use sewing machine..).

These books are really expensive in the quilt shops, but I saved a lot of bucks ordering them from a norwegian internetshop. As you can see behind the books, I have also bought Pride & Prejudice, with the real Mr. Darcy. I am a sucker for Jane Austen, and I bought all the films, and have ordered three of her novels. (You know, just for starters...)

And finally I`ve got a book shelf that actually can hold books! As you can see there is not very much space left, so I better start planning for another one. You see my iron? It fell on the floor! Wonder if it still works??

Working on my baby quilt design

This weekend I have done quite a lot of stitching on my red work project that I showed you earlier. And finally I have lifted my butt, and started on my Baby Quilt. I have done a few sketches today, and is constantly thinking about the fabric choice. I only wish my sewingroom was a bit more organized. I don`t need to have it spotless, but if it gets to messy it messes with my creativity.

Anyway, since the young man that I planned this quilt for soon is on his way home from the hospitol, I better get going.

Comfort shopping

In these trying times, sometimes you just have to give in, drive to your favourite quilt shop, and just buy something! That is what I did last Sunday. And this is what I brought home with me;

I do manage to get some sewing done, I have been working on the Patchwork Village quilt by Rosie Quinlan. Only have a few more blocks to go, then I can start the hunt for red and pink fabrics :)

I am sorry for not blogging the last couple of weeks. There has been a few "bumps in the road" lately, and my spirit has been a bit low. There has been little time for sewing, funny how that effects my mood. I feel like a fish on land. So today I made myself sit down an stitch, I need vitamin Q!!!

I have made another toilet bag, the one I learned to sew in a class a few weeks back. The instructions was a bit incomplete, so I started on another one right away, while I could remember it all. It came together almost as easy as the first one. This one I am going to keep for myself.

My next project will be designing a baby quilt for my colleague. She is overdue, and we are all waiting for the baby to come.

More exhibition

This is the result of a Round Robin we held in our quilting quild. We love the result! The three quilts are a gift to the local Women Crisis center.

This qute cat quilt is also a result of a project in our guild. It is a gift for a center for multi handicaped children.

The bear quilt became my personal favourite, it is just soo cute. My friend Leka made it from little log cabin blocks. The picture on the wall is hand made by my friend Bente (no blog). Adorable!

Exhibition

My quilting quild is 20 years this year, and we celebrated by putting up a grand exhibition last weekend. The exhibition took place in an old prison (now a museum) down town. We feared we would get few quilts to display, but we ended up spending almost 4 hours hanging up lots and lot of wonderful quilts.

The surroundings were perfect for our quilts, and the visitors where impressed. We got a lot of positive feedback, and several proclaimed that this was by far the best quilt exhibition they had ever visited!

We had several rooms and cells to fill, enabeling us to sort the quilts into different color themes and so on.

This hall we named the Japanese hall. It was filled with quilts made with japanese fabrics.

This Buggy Barn-quilt was made by my good friend Hege, with leftover (!!) blocks.

I know I have posted about this jewel before, but a good thing can never be seen too often. It is made by Inger Solveig (no blogg), and is hand sewed and stitched in its entirety. I dream of making this quilt some day.

We dressed the cells up really nice. I doubt they were this cozy when the prisoners lived here.

One of the cells were filled with care quilts. Our quild is a big contributor, last year we gave away app. 80 quilts!!

A finish!

I have finished the toilet bag I sewed at Livs place Sunday. The bag is for one of my darling sons. In order to finish the bag while in class, I choosed to drop the applique, and finish it later. I used freezer paper, not the easiest thing to do on the finished bag. Next time I will do the applique before I assemble the bag.

The zipper turned out great :) (Almost feel like a proffessional lol)

Quilt class and food!

Yesterday I joined a class at my friend Liv, learning to make the cutest make up bag. The teacher of the class was Bente Tufte (no blog). We were ten happy ladies that met for the day, eager to learn and chat.

Liv has a cosy little quiltshop on the top of the familys garage, and this is the second time I have joined classes here. I woke up yesterday feeling the coming of a flu, but I just had to go. Part of the class was about sewing a zipper, and I stink at that. The fact that her husband always make a delicious lunch for us also had something to do with my eagerness. Imagine going to a fun quilt course, and also being fed!! What a lucky gal!

Mmm, snacks........

I love being a part of the OPAM group. Although my production is not all that big, I have manage to finish a couple of very old UFO`s. My last finish is this table runner.

I have called it the Miiaau Table runner, due to the border fabric. The pattern is made by a Norwegian designer, AnnaKa. I am giving this as a prize to the raffle my quiltguild is having next weekend.

Here is my puppy Max, who can`t stand still for a second, checking out the fabrics. Max looooves cats, they taste great!!

I love the colors in my Rabbit quilt (previous posts). It is fun and quick to make. Unfortunately I have run out of the stabilizer, and can`t stitch any more blocks until I get my hands on some more. I use a thin wool stabilizer, which I iron on to the back. Must order some today.
