The new sewingroom

This fall has been very wet! It resulted in water damages on the ground floor, and renovation of my sewingroom. New flooring and new paint did the job, I am very pleased with the result.

Very tidy - for now lol

My own little reading space. I am delighted! I love the new oak floor, it brings warmth to the room.

Water!!!

I was shocked last Wednesday when I came home from work and found myself standing in water in the hallway. Extreme rainfalls the last few days resulted in water coming in to several rooms on the ground floor. Including my sewingroom!! So now we live on an airport. Well, that is what it sounds like, with the fans that dries out the rooms.

I decided to give the sewingroom a little makeover, and have started painting it in a lighter blue. I have chosed an oak floor to give the room warmth. I just hope the renovation wont take long!

Eureka!!!

Look what I found at the church flea market in Geilo yesterday!!!!

This stunning retro log cabin quilt! The best part is that the quilt is dated, it is sewn by a woman named Kari back in 1979. I was ten years old when this quilt was made! It is beautiful made, you can tell that Kari was an accomplished quiltmaker.

The quilt was chucked away in a shelf together with other fabrics, easy to miss. But I spotted it straight away :)

Holiday projects

My darling J and I are busy painting and carpenting this vacation. In between I still manage to do some sewing .

This table was dark pine tree, and did not fit in with the grey walls in our garden room. So now I am painting it in a very light grey. In need of some colors I made this table runner top. Not too happy with the layout of the blocks, but very satisfied when all the blocks turned out square and all in same size.

Color Explosion part one

Today I finished sewing together the blocks for the Color Explosion Quilt. I never stop wondering how it is that even though I am as thorough as can be, the sizes of the blocks always varies a bit. Hm!!

( I need a better camera, time to upgrade my phone I guess). Well, the top is off to meet the magic hands of LeKaQuilt, I can't wait for part two of this project!

Color Explosion

This is a project I am sewing together with my sister in spirit, LeKa Quilt. The quilt is a gift to handicaped children living at Austjord (a institution in our community).

The quilt is a explosion of colors and contrasts. Finally I found a use for my old Jinny Beyer fabrics.

The accent fabric is black. This is a rehearsel in using fabrics way out of my comfort zone, I need to sew something really cute and pretty after this quilt lol.

Twin table runner

My darling J and myself enjoy making our new home together, and painting old pine furniture is one of many tasks on our agenda.

It is amazing what paint can do, don't you think? J asked me the other day "wouldn't it be nice if you made some table runners?" Who am I to say no???

I don't have much time to quilt these days, but I managed to make two small tablerunners using a very simple pattern. And now that I have learned not to hose down the fabric I am getting really into glue basting.

A cute little finish

I really wanted to get started on three table clothes today, but my head and body was not up for it after getting almost no sleep last night due to tummy ache.

I found a little handsewed block in my UFO pile that I made years ago. I made this little quilt in no time, is it not cute? It makes me want to put on a cute repro apron (don't have it) and start making some cup cakes!

The Vases of Flowers Wall Quilt

Finally the summer has arrived, and we are enjoing the sun and hot temparatures. We are doing a makeover in our gardenroom (is that the correct name for it?)

I plan to fill one of the walls with this gorgeous wall quilt from the book Floral Bouquet Quilts by Yoko Saito. I am working on the Januar block. Every stitch will be by hand.

This is the wiew I woke up to early this morning. Beautiful sky and the birds singing.

Fabrics!!!!

Today I visited Kathrines Quiltestue together with my friends Anne and Lena (LeKa Quilt). This was my first visit at what I can only call a quilters heaven. I have never seen so much fabrics in one place before!

This picture only shows less than a third of the shop. I could never work here, I would only be fondling the fabrics and forget the customers.

I bought some lovely FQ of the Ambleside collection.

The two grey fabrics are for a needleturn workshop LeKaQuilt is having at my place in the fall. Can't wait!! The pretty blue fabric I just had to have :)

Only a little quilting job left..

I believe I started on this quilt in 2007, but who can tell for sure after so many years? I finished the top last year, and now "only" the quilting job remains. I have always wanted to hand quilt it, but I fear many more years will go by before that happens. Too many projects ahead! I better start saving for some long arm quilting at LeKa Quilt.

A quilt for the sweet tooth

I must admit that I have a weakness for the sweets, which is the reason for my constant weight struggle. Fabrics and sugar - thats me!

This wallquilt sends me searching through my kitchen cabinets looking for sweet treats ever so often :) The text says "Life is short - have your dessert first".

Birthday present

My very good friend Lene recently turned 40. I made her this little tablerunner for her birthday present.

We have both joined a class in needleturn applique that starts in the fall, so I included this practical container and a few notions she will be needing.

Naturally I bought one for myself as well :)

Starquilt

My youngest son has wanted a new quilt for a long time. Last fall I started on his Star quilt. The stars are my own design.

My appologies for the mess in the picture. It was taken in my tiny old flat. This shows the top before I freehand quilted it. My youngest was very pleased when he opened his present on xmas eve.

A finish on display

I started on this BOM from Lappemakeriet several years ago, and the top has been finished for ages. My very good friend LeKaQuilt has done a superb job quilting it. My darling J loves it and decided it should hang in our stairway. He got no arguing from me :).

An unexpected find

Yesterday we went for a ten hours drive to Kristiansand and back, picking up garden furniture and visiting idyllic sights like Lillesand and Tonsberg (Norways oldest town).

We found a treasure lying on the side of the motorway - a beautyful croquet baby blanket. Someone must be heartbroken losing it, but I will give it a good home!

Welcome to my new sewingroom

At last all my fabrics and supplies are out in the open after three years in a dark closet. Welcome to my new sewingroom!! I am tickled pink! These pictures were taken a while back, before my huge elevating sewingtable were in place.

The old cupboard are in place. It was pure joy placing all my almost forgotten supplies back in it. By the way, the room is tidy now. Well, as tidy as a sewing room should be.

Look what my darling J made for me! If this is not love then I don`t know what is. He thinks my sewingroom is the cosiest room in the house.
